RUSSIAN ART OF XVIII CENTURY

The history of art does not know more abrupt turn from the Middle Ages by new time, than in Russia of the beginning of XVIII century. The art system of Ancient Russia was great and fine, its historical soil was not exhausted. On a universal historical background it became archaism; Peter I, cutting a window to Europe, has blown up also old art tradition.
